A Half Marathon, The Red and a Buzzed Head.

Hi All,
We have had a busy last month or so. On October 5th we ran our first half marathon. Janice did very well running a 1:43:43. She placed 2nd overall in the women race and 1st in her age group. Geoff was happy with how he did running 1:56:34. We both liked doing it but don't really want to do it again anytime soon.

Here we are at the end of the run.

A couple of weeks later we went to The Red. It was Janice's first time down and we were both very excited. After a short ride of 10 1/2 hours we were down at Roadside Crag. Lots of people, dogs and climbing. Molly and Pico got along great with the other dogs. We then headed to Miguel's for a bit of pizza and so Janice could see a part of the dirt bag climber's life. We then headed into the gorge to camp. We camped out near the trail that leads up to Pistol Ridge. We froze a little bit that night and we could not have a fire because of restrictions.

The next morning we got up and walked up to Pebble Beach. We got on a few fun climbs Geoff had never done before and watch these two guys climb this bad ass 5.10 trad crack. It was insane. Maybe someday we will be good enough to climb that. We then headed down to camp and had lunch. We then went up to Pistol Ridge. Janice lead her first 5.8 called Don't Feed the Triceritops. The last climb we did was a 5.8+ trad climb called Bitchmoblie.

Here is a picture of Janice climbing up behind Geoff.

Once we got to the top we went over the way to clean an anchor and how to repel off a climb.

While we were up on the climb we heard this loud thump and then someone start yelling about his knee. It did not sound good. After we got our stuff cleaned up we started down the trail where a young man was kind of looking for us. He asked if we could clean his gear off a route because one of the party had taken a fall and they were all a little shaken up. There were two beginner climbers, one belaying and one lead climbing. The leader took a fall trying to clip a bolt. He was a lot bigger the belayer and pulled him off the ground and they collied in mid air and slammed into the rock, smashing the one guy's knee.

After we cleaned the route we headed down to camp. After we got back down to camp we cleaned up a little, fed the dogs and had dinner. We sat down and started to drink a couple of beers. It started getting dark and we realized we had not seen these kids come down yet. Then it was dark and we did not see them. So, we put on our head lamps and headed up the trail. For those of you who don't know this trail it is steep, rocky and long. Lots of places you can slip or fall. We found them only half way down the trail with no light with the one guy hopping on one leg. They were happy to see us but not terribly worried. We stayed with them and helped out when we could. We were both glad we went up to see if they were ok.

We woke up the next morning to our tent covered in frost and 31 degrees. Then the short jaunt home.

Yesterday was a big day. After making an agreement with a student, if he got all A's and B's he could buzz Geoff's head, he did it. So yesterday on Halloween, in front of the whole school, with help it happened.

First here is Geoff in his costume.

Here are a series of pictures.

Here are a couple of short videos.

It was a great time for everyone. Most or all of the people around here have never seen Geoff with short hair. He has received some great reactions.

We hope this find everyone doing well.

Peace and Love,
Geoff and Janice
