A Lifelong Question, Does a bear shit in the woods?

Hi All,
This post will answer the question above a little later on.
Janice, Molly, Pico and I met up with a friend of Janice's in the UP of Michigan last weekend. Michelle, Janice's friend is from MN and works for the U of Minnesota helping to create maps of Antarctica. That is a very elementary way of explaining her job but it is cool. She will be going to Antarctica later this year for a few weeks.
Any way, we met up in Marquette and started on our adventure. We all headed to a Little island north of Marquette.

We all had to wade over to the island.
Here is Michelle crossing over.

Here is Molly making the mad dash to the island to get out of the water.

This is Janice just before getting to the island.

The water gets about waist deep and is a little cold.
We then hiked to the north end of the island to hang out and climb around on the rocks.

This is Michelle, Janice and Molly relaxing on the rocks after a dip into the very cold water.

Here is Pico trying to help me finish a little boulder problem on the island.

If I were to fall off, which I did a couple of times, I would fall into cold water over my head.

While we were out on the island a nasty little storm rolled in. We all moved to a low spot and waited for the lightening to blow over.

After the worst of the storm went thru it still looked like rain. We all thought we should get off the island. Here is some rain as we were getting off the island.

The next day we headed out to grand Island for a two day backpacking trip. The island is about 20 mile all the way around. Ten mile the fist day and ten the next. We succeeded in kicking our own asses.

Here is Janice and Michelle on the way up the east side of the island.

On the north end of the island was a beautiful beach. Here is Michelle and Janice hanging out after the long hike.

Near the end of the first day, after dinner, we went up to a point to watch the sunset.

The next day we headed down the west end of the island.

Here is Janice and Michelle on the trail.

Here is one of the many vistas on the west trail.

Drum roll please........

Yes, a bear does shit in the woods.

And this might be the bear who left the little treat for us.

We saw two bear on this trip. My first in Michigan while hiking. The first was on the first day about a half hour off the boat. The next was this one on the west side of the island about a half hour from the boat. Very cool.

Peace Out,
Geoff
