The Red

Hi All,
I just got back Friday from a wonderful trip down to Red River Gorge in KY. My good friend Steve had the pleasure of putting up with me for the 12 hour drive down and back. And my new friend Ryan met us, coming over from Southern Ill. We stayed at Miguel's Pizza place. For those of you who don't know Miguel's is a climbing junky hangout at the Red. A lot of times it is filled with tents and climbers from all over the country and often times the world. They are all there to enjoy some of the world's best climbing.

This is me playing on the slack line behind Miguel's.

This may give you a little idea what it is like down there. Climbers getting bored on rest days.

After our first day of climbing we all decided to take a drive around to see the sights. This is Steve bouldering under a place called Buzzards Roost.

This is Steve, Ryan and Pico on the tip of the Roost.

This is Pico getting a hand up the steep climb from under the Roost.

The second day of climbing took us to a climb called Creature Feature. This is Ryan about 2/3's up the climb.

To do the route you have to go up and pull over the big roof.

This is me on the start of a climb called Creep Show. This is one of my favorite climbs at the Red. I achieved my second red point on it.:) :)

This is me belaying Steve up Pogue Ethics.

On our last day at The Red we got rained out. But instead of crying about it Steve and I decided to do some hiking. This is one of the many natural bridges in the gorge.

We then decided to do a little hiking by the Red River. This is part of the trail.

As we where hiking we found some very cool caves. Now I have to admit I was a little worried about going into them but Steve talked me into it. All I can say is thanks Steve. This is me in a narrow section of the first cave we went into.

This is me and Pico at the end of the first cave, that happened to be a little water fall.

This is Steve at the entrance to the first cave.

This is Steve in the second cave. This is the section where we had to crawl thru the mud and puddles. Great fun.

This will give you an idea of how dark it is in there. This was taken with the flash off and only Steve's head lamp on.

This is Steve near the entrance of the second cave. If you look closely to the left of Steve there is a little brown bat. When we got to the entrance of the cave Steve saw this little guy on my back. I hope he is OK.

We had a great time and hope we can get some of our loved ones down there soon.

Peace Out,

Geoff
